From the President’s Console: February 2003

Posted February 2003

This month, INFONETICS will present an exciting new concept in conjunction the Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA, formerly NWSA). Monday, February 10th at 11:00am, EST, we will host a Webinar, live from our Dallas INFOGROUP users group meeting. Our major focus will be Virtual Private Networking (VPN). To participate, simply visit GAWDA’s web site (gawda.org) and click on the “Virtual Private Networks (VPN) Webinar” link. You’ll be provided a toll free phone# and passcode to listen to the live audio teleconference, as well as a link to the video powerpoint presentation. It promises to be an exciting morning!

In other big news, we’ve begun alpha testing of our next major software release; Version 2.20. In addition to numerous minor enhancements and fixes, this release introduces a new “total company” warehouse into the Inventory Control System, allowing you to effectively manage individual branch re-supply needs, as well as overall company wide needs more effectively. We’ve also expanded the customer ship-to field to 3 digits, supporting up to 1,000 shipping locations per customers. Beta testing is scheduled for later this month, so keep an eye on future newsletters for announcement of full availability.

We’re also proud to report that porting of our classic software to the Redhat Linux platform is progressing quite well, and ahead of schedule. Linux promises to become the server platform of choice in the near future and likely to replace the venerable SCO Unix operating system used throughout the INFONETICS customer base. But don’t worry, we’ll continue to support our software on both O.S.’s.

We’d like to welcome two new customers; Jeff and his crew at Red Oak Industrial Gases in Red Oak, IA and Wendy, Tod, Bob & Julie at Harris Calorific in Monroe, OH. Welcome aboard!
